Kansas City Public Library (Plaza Branch)

Friday will give you the opportunity to study extra late in a place where peace and quiet is abundant. The Plaza branch is open until 9pm.

Boulevard Brewing Co. – Beer Hall

One of the better known breweries in town also doubles as an expansive and spacious spot to study. Expect the vibes here to be a little more raucous than some of the aforementioned late night study spots, but if you’re looking to stay local and sample some of the great culture KC has to offer, Boulevard is right at the top of most lists when it comes to that.

Parisi Coffee (Union Station)

If taking in some of the sights of Kansas City is on your list while studying, you can kill two birds with one stone, or just a good cup of coffee as it were, by studying late at Parisi Station which is nestled right in the heart of historic Union Station.

Studying at a station, especially from a quiet corner of this coffee shop, can actually be unexpectedly serene. The soft hum of conversation, the echo of footsteps across the grand hall, and the steady rhythm of trains coming and going create a calming backdrop that makes it easy to focus while feeling gently connected to the life of the city.

Best KC Coffee Shops for Studying

Thou Mayest (Nelson-Atkins)

Wow, wow, wow. If there could be an award for the most postmodern coffee shop, I think Thou Mayest would snag that award! It’s nestled in the serene white walls of the Nelson-Atkins museum of art.

There are some lovely relaxing yellow chairs to sit back in if you want that more laid back vibe, or straight back black chairs that fit the postmodern black/white contrast vibe. A great spot to get a shot for the gram, and you can also peruse the museum while you’re at it! (Yes, I’m aware we’ve featured these guys twice, I couldn’t leave this one off!)

The Filling Station (Midtown)

Crows Coffee

Pilgrim Coffee Company

Is it just me or are there some serious Twin Peaks vibes coming from Pilgrim Coffee, as photographed from outdoors in the rain? There are a lot of tables inside, and you’ll be sure to find your own cozy nook in here to study.

Messenger Coffee Co.

It’s one of the most highly rated coffee shops in KC, and for good reason. You get an awesome view of the in house bakery at work if you post up inside, and there’s also a spacious outdoor area for the warmer months. Great coffee, too!

Yes, it’s a Starbucks, but as one that I’ve actually been to several times, I can personally attest it has a really spacious area and is usually quiet, due to its somewhat secluded location.

There’s also an outdoor patio area for the warmer months. Don’t sleep on this one if you’re in the heart of downtown!

Well, that concludes the list of the best places to study in Kansas City. I think we can all agree the city never feels rushed but is never still, and this list reflects that.
