Where to Donate Books in Brisbane

From children’s charities to mental health charities, we’ve collected all the information on which places accept book donations in Brissy.

Please “read on” to discover where, when, and how to donate your gently used books!

Books 4 PNG Kids

Donation Types: Drop off, Drop off in book bin
24/7 Book Bin Locations:

– 39 Flanders Street, Salisbury QLD 4107
Other Drop Off Locations: Beenleigh, Forest Lake, Ray White Robina (see website for all addresses and opening hours)
Type of Books Accepted: Early reader books, primary school fiction and nonfiction up to age 12, bibles, dictionaries, thesauri, atlases and world maps
Type of Books Not Accepted: Encyclopedias over 6 years old, university textbooks

How to Donate

Their New Farm and Salisbury locations provide a 24/7 drop off via their book bins. The Salisbury Flanders Street location is their official headquarters, and if nobody is there they advise leaving your books in the doorway on the far left-hand side of the building.

If nobody is around at the New Farm location, please leave your books under the stairs.

The other three locations in QLD have specified hours where they can accept drop offs, so please check the link above for each site’s operating hours.

How They Help

This charity’s numbers speak for themselves: they’ve operated for over 20 years and in that time have delivered over 4.5 million books from Australia to Papua New Guinea. 

They help keep over 400 schools stocked with English language books, which is vital in helping the children in PNG learn English, as well as cultivate a love for reading.

PNG Books 4 Kids also offers volunteer packing opportunities at their Salisbury warehouse, if you’d like to get involved further in this great cause.

Brothers N’ Books

How to Donate

Both charity shops listed above accept book donations on behalf of Brothers N’ Books

How They Help

Brothers N’ Books is an extremely unique charity that uses reading to help alleviate stress and anxiety. They simply put it: supporting mental health through bibliotherapy (great word!)

The charity, founded by former army officer Ryan, does this through setting up community libraries to provide free access to books, as well as through an online community with regularly updated reading lists. They aim to help those impacted by trauma through the healing power of reading, and any books for adults will be graciously accepted through their partner stores.

Care Kits for Kids QLD

How to Donate

This charity has loads of drop off points in businesses around Brisbane. Just check their map for the nearest one near you.

How They Help

Care Kits for Kids helps children in crisis, by providing them a ‘kit’ to last two days, stocked full of clothes, toiletries, educational supplies, and of course… books!

These gifts can be heartening for a child displaced due to unforeseen circumstances, or a child in crisis.

Lifeline Book Fest

How to Donate

One of the more well-known nationwide charities, Lifeline hosts an annual Bookfest to raise money for its important programs. Donate to their stores year round.

For bulk book donations, this is a great option as Lifeline will pick your books up at no charge at all, if you have a lot (think over fifty at least.)
