Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library

Type of Books Accepted: Popular fiction and nonfiction, magazines to do with history, art, decor, and design
Type of Books Not Accepted: General magazines, textbooks, law/medicine/any professional books, encyclopedias post-1920, computer/business/finance books over 5 years old

How to Donate

Bring your gently used books to any WPL branch during their regular opening hours. Your donations will be used by the Friends to fund programs and special projects at WPL.

Manitoba Literary Association

Type of Books Accepted: Mass paperback fiction, comics/graphic novels, books by indigenous authors, biographies, “how-to” books, language learning books, law books no older than 3 years, self-help books
Type of Books Not Accepted: Religious books, hardcover or spiral bound books, magazines, textbooks, encyclopedias, children’s books

How to Donate

The organization requests that you email them, ideally with a photo of all the books you’d like to donate. Their email address is mla.plcdonate@gmail.com

Once they’ve given you the green light, they will send you a location to drop the books off at (this information isn’t public.)

Keep in mind the Manitoba Literary Association will be donating your books to prisoners. That’s why they won’t accept any hardcover or spiral bound books, as these aren’t allowed in correctional facilities. This is an important service and one where you know your books will really be put to good use.

Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba Book Sale

The Children’s Hospital book sale is a renowned event in Winnipeg, taking place each April. 

While donations are not accepted year-round, I encourage you check out their website and social pages in the months leading up to April, as they should have information that’s updated each year about when, where and how to donate to this great cause.
